Developed in 1993 with Hawaiian scholar and historian Dr. George Kanahele, the Ke 'Ano Wa'a process was designed to advance the company's corporate culture and fundamental business strategies. The values-based process intricately connected three core elements of the hospitality industry: HOST + GUEST + PLACE
It also deepened Outrigger's understanding and appreciation of the local host culture, a distinct hospitality style that is recognized across the globe.
Polynesian navigators boldly traveled vast, uncharted distances, driven by an unlimited desire to explore the world beyond the horizon. It was a world they greeted with open arms and, as hosts, Outrigger follows their example.
Graciousness cannot be taught. It is the purest expression of the human spirit, infused with natural kindness and an effortless warmth you may have never experienced before.
In 1929, Roy and Estelle arrived in Hawai'i with little more than a few dollars in their pockets and a lot of determined optimism. They saved, invested, started a family and 18 years later built their first hotel in Waikiki. They were the first to offer modestly priced hotel rooms in Waikiki as airline service sparked mass tourism in the 1950s.
Today, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts continues to prosper, operating premier resorts and hotel properties throughout the Hawaiian Islands, Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean. Foresight and hard work have steadily directed the company forward; warmth and generosity have continually guided its success.
